The technological option of Spanish savings banks before the Internet ,

چکیده
Technical advances in retail banking have had profound repercussions for the competitiveness of individual firms and for the sector as a whole. This work sets out 2 objectives: first, it attempts to analyse the role of technology with respect to both organizational change and the products and services offered by the savings banks; and second, to investigate the reciprocal influence of technology and the way in which this is used by the retail banks. These entities constitute an excellent case study, given that they have been incorporating technology intensively, particularly since the 1960’s. The mechanization of operations, the computerization of administrative systems and the establishment of data transfer networks were all exceptional and premature in the way in which they developed. It was the banking industry, prior to other sectors, that stimulated the demand for certain technologies, which was somewhat idiosyncratic when compared to other countries. © 2012 Asociación Española de Historia Económica. Bank productivity and performance groups: A decomposition approach based upon the Luenberger productivity indicator
The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, in the framework of the strategic groups’ literature, it analyses changes in productivity and efficiency of Spanish private and savings banks over an eight-year period (1998–2006). Second, by adapting the decomposition of the Malmquist productivity indices suggested by Färe et al. (1994), it proposes similar components decomposing the Luenberger prod...

The objective of this paper is to compare the performance of these two models across countries, so as to examine the role of differences in the banking system and technological progress. A ...
متن کاملRotating item banks versus restriction of maximum exposure rates in computerized adaptive testing.
If examinees were to know, beforehand, part of the content of a computerized adaptive test, their estimated trait levels would then have a marked positive bias. One of the strategies to avoid this consists of dividing a large item bank into several sub-banks and rotating the sub-bank employed (Ariel, Veldkamp & van der Linden, 2004). This strategy permits substantial improvements in exposure co...
